Canelo Arrives in Riyadh Early and Confirms Saturday Fight Goes Ahead

Last updated: 26 October 2026
Saul “Canelo” Alvarez arrived in Riyadh early on Monday 26 October and confirmed his WBC super-middleweight title fight against Christian Mbilli goes ahead on Saturday 31 October at The Venue in Riyadh. The Mexican star told Reuters he feels rested and ready after more than a year out of the ring.
This independent Riyadh guide sets out what his early arrival changes, the full fight-week schedule, the undercard and how to attend.
Canelo lands early and speaks
Reuters reported that Alvarez arrived in Riyadh early on Monday to a warm welcome from fans at his hotel. He arrived two days before the scheduled grand arrivals event on Wednesday 28 October, so the week’s public events still run as published.
“I feel great. I can’t wait to step in the ring,” Alvarez told Reuters. The 36-year-old said his body needed the rest after his loss to Terence Crawford in September 2025. He and his team, led by trainer Eddy Reynoso, trained in Spain with the camp of heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.
Alvarez is a former two-time undisputed super-middleweight champion, and a win would make him a world champion again.
The fight is still on
Reuters reports the bout is going ahead on Saturday even as other sporting events in Saudi Arabia have been cancelled or postponed over security concerns. Fighting between a Saudi-led coalition and Houthi forces in Yemen has intensified in recent weeks, and the Houthis have repeatedly attacked Saudi airports, including Riyadh’s main airport.
For fans travelling in, King Khalid International Airport resumed flights on Sunday 25 October, with Terminal 1 for domestic flights and Terminal 2 for international flights operated by national carriers. Check flight status with your airline before travelling.
No date or venue change has been announced. The fight stays on Saturday 31 October at The Venue in Riyadh, as part of Riyadh Season.
Fight-week schedule
Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, published the fight-week schedule on 20 October. Each event starts at 9:00 PM Riyadh time.
| Day | Event |
|---|---|
| Wednesday 28 October | Grand arrivals |
| Thursday 29 October | Press conferences |
| Friday 30 October | Ceremonial weigh-in |
| Saturday 31 October | Fight night |
Canelo’s early arrival does not change this schedule. The same weekend also brings the public opening of Boulevard World on Friday 30 October, so Hittin will be busy from Friday evening through fight night.
The undercard
Alalshikh announced three title fights for the undercard on 8 October. Jaime Munguia defends the WBA super-middleweight title against Nikita Zon, Rafael Espinoza defends the WBO featherweight title against Ricardo Blandon, and Lindolfo Delgado meets Arthur Biyarslanov for the vacant IBF super-lightweight title. Blandon stepped in after Lorenzo Parra was ruled out on medical-exam grounds, a change confirmed by the WBO on 23 October.
The undercard also carries a non-title bout between Alan David Picasso and Carl Jammes Martin. Martin confirmed the matchup on his official social media page, and GMA News reported it on 10 October. Martin is unbeaten at 28 wins, and Picasso is a former world title challenger.
Above them, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 knockouts) challenges Christian Mbilli (29-0-1, 24 knockouts) for the WBC super-middleweight title. It is Canelo’s first fight since his unanimous-decision loss to Terence Crawford in September 2025, and Mbilli’s first defence as full champion.
Venue, tickets and getting there
The Venue sits in the Boulevard City district in Hittin, northern Riyadh. WeBook is the official ticket channel, with tickets from 50 SAR and entry by mobile ticket, so download it before you travel. The cheapest tiers on big Riyadh fight nights clear first, so booking early usually beats waiting.
DAZN carries the card on pay-per-view, so check the DAZN listing for the start time in your timezone. On a big fight night the approach roads jam and parking near the gates fills hours before the first bout, so the Riyadh Metro plus a short taxi or event shuttle causes the fewest problems.
