Juventus 1-2 AC Milan: Supercoppa Semifinal Result

AC Milan beat Juventus 2-1 in the Supercoppa Italiana semifinal at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh on Friday 3 January 2025, in Sergio Conceição’s first match as coach. Kenan Yildiz gave Juventus the lead, but Christian Pulisic’s penalty and a Federico Gatti own goal turned the tie in four second-half minutes. Our Riyadh football coverage follows every major fixture staged in the Saudi capital.
Conceição had been appointed only the previous Monday following Paulo Fonseca’s dismissal, and his reign began with a comeback. Yildiz smashed Juventus in front in the 21st minute with a finish into the near top corner, and the Bianconeri held that lead past the hour.
How the semifinal unfolded
Juventus controlled the first hour in Riyadh. Yildiz’s 21st-minute strike, assisted by Samuel Mbangula, was the difference at the break, and Thiago Motta’s side looked comfortable.
The game turned in the 71st minute. Manuel Locatelli brought down Pulisic in the box, and Pulisic converted the resulting penalty himself, sending his spot kick down the middle. Four minutes later, Milan were ahead: Yunus Musah ran onto the ball down the right and attempted to cross for Tammy Abraham, but the ball struck Gatti and deflected past a stranded Michele Di Gregorio at the near post.
Juventus pushed for an equalizer, and in the final seconds Federico Gatti volleyed wide from a Yildiz cross, possibly via a Matteo Gabbia block. It was Juventus’ second competitive defeat of the season.
What the result meant
The win sent Milan through to the Supercoppa Italiana final against Inter on 6 January, which they won 3-2 to lift the trophy. It was the ideal debut for Conceição and the start of a run that brought him his first silverware within a week of taking the job.
For Juventus, the defeat in Riyadh was an early blow in a difficult season. Inter beat Atalanta 2-0 in the other semifinal on 2 January.
